Ngee Ann Polytechnic - Master Class
Hollywood Animation Masters @ NP, School of ICT
Three Animation Masters flew in from Hollywood to Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of InfoComm Technology (ICT) to conduct a 2-day Master Class on Digital Cinematography: Previs/Layout for Animated & Live-Action Productions from 6 to 7 January 2011.
The Master Class is made possible with strong support from the Media Development Authority of Singapore and Omens Studios.
Professionals from the Animation Industry and students of the Diploma in Multimedia & Animation had the privilege to hear direct from the Masters who have worked on many Hollywood Blockbuster movies such as Star Wars, Prep and Landing, Shrek Forever After, Kung Fu Panda 2, and How to Train Your Dragon, just to name a few.
We received excellent feedback from the students and animators of the learning value from the masters.
The Master Class is one of the unique features of our Diploma in Animation & 3D Arts (A3DA) and Diploma in Multimedia & Animation (MMA) in raising the quality bar of our students in the digital animation space and moulding the right mindset in them.
Biography of the Masters
Wong Hock Hian is the Layout Artist at Dreamworks, Co-Founder and Art Director of Omens Studios, has recently completed Previz and Layout for How To Train Your Dragon. He also did Character Effects work on Shrek Forever After and on the sequel to the blockbuster Kung Fu Panda 2. He is currently working on another movie, Puss in Boots.
Brian J. Pohl, Senior Previz Supervisor, Senior Digital Artist and Co-Owner of Persistence of Vision Studios, was apart of the Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones previsualisation team. He also worked as a Previz Artist on K19: The Widowmaker, Men in Black II, The Hulk, Terminator 3, Van Helsing, and THX-1138 Special Edition.
Rob Dressel, a Layout/Sequence Supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios, has worked on many live action features, including Crimson Tide, Armageddon, Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves, Deep Rising, Mighty Joe Young, Inspector Gadget, 102 Dalmatians, Reign of Fire, Prep and Landing. He is currently the Layout Supervisor on Disney’s next animated feature: Reboot.
